What is Youth Counselling?

Humans are constantly changing and developing. But no where is the rate of development so evident as in teens. During the period of adolescence, youth transform from children to adults, and face a number of specific concerns. The physical maturation process and fast growth can lead to teens feeling “uncomfortable in their own skin.” Mental changes allow them to see beyond the concrete and question mainstream narratives. The development of a personal identity as opposed to that of their upbringing can lead to existential crisis and interpersonal conflicts. An emerging sexuality comes into play during this coming-of-age, and questions about expression and peer relations abound. All these lead to youth counselling concerns.

That is where Teen Counselling comes in. For teens who are feeling overwhelmed with their lives. For parents who feel that they have lost connection with their child. Counselling provides a safe space to be able to talk about the issues that we are facing. No matter what you are going through, your counsellor is there to listen, to understand, and to give you a plan. By connecting with someone outside of the situation, they can provide a different perspective to those you hear everyday.

Counselling for teens starts with a simple question: “What do you want to change in your life?” Regardless if this is personal, relational, or aspirational, the response is the same. We believe that, regardless of where you are in life right now, there is a better future around the corner. If you are willing to be honest with yourself, there is a powerful change and a hope for the future.
