Since the beginning of time, women have been fighting against the existing patriarchy, fighting for equality on many levels. While our society is more balanced than ever before, there is still injustice faced on a daily basis. Females make less on average than males, they are more likely to be the victim of domestic violence, and they are more likely to live in poverty. There is still more work that needs to be done to promote gender equality in our Canadian society. Because of the many inequalities that still exist, there are certain concerns that are more prominent in females and gives a need for women counselling.

How Can Counselling for Women Help?

The first promise that we give to counselling participants is this: “Your story is unique, and we want to understand your journey.” The first step in counselling is to make sure that your voice is the loudest one in the room. Once the counsellor and participant feel that they have a good understanding of the situation, they work together to find a solution. These practical steps are informed by the latest psychological research but primarily formed by an understanding of your unique situation.

At the same time, as a result of biology and society, females face different challenges than men and non-binary individuals. At Evergreen Counselling Group, we want therapy to be a safe place for you. We want counselling to be “your” space, where your concerns are addressed in the manner that you think they should be.
