Mykhaylo (Mike) Petrynyak

Mykhaylo comes to Evergreen Counselling group as a practicum student nearing completion of his Master of Arts Counselling Psychology Degree. A fascination with the intricate workings of the human mind carried him through a bachelor's degree in honors psychology and into the position of Crisis Counselor, where he first understood the substantial transformative potential of an effective therapeutic relationship. Since then, Mykhaylo has committed himself to the field of psychotherapy and to the work of helping others to thrive no matter their circumstance.  

With hundreds of hours of experience as a Crisis Counsellor and over 130 hours as a student therapist, Mykhaylo has refined his therapy approach to focus primarily on empowering his clients to call forth greater versions of themselves and to claim the power they have over their own life. He does this on a bedrock of Cognitive-Behavioral and mindfulness-based interventions. To suit the unique needs of his clients, Mykhaylo also draws from narrative, emotion-focused, and existential therapeutic models. Put simply, he aims to empower his clients using a variety of evidence-based frameworks and techniques such as narrative deconstruction, emotional awareness and regulation, psychoeducation, and existential analysis. Within a space of safety and non-judgement, Mykhaylo asks thoughtful questions, teaches useful concepts, and walks alongside his clients as they navigate their mind, body, and spirit, toward inner peace and holistic fulfillment.    

In his personal life, some of Mykhaylo’s most important values are authentic expression, physical fitness, and connection with nature. Mykhaylo loves to snowboard, hike, read, and play guitar.
